Food Day Canada Contest with Get Fresh & The Root Cellar
Celebrate Food Day Canada
Saturday, August 5th, 2017
Food Day Canada is an opportunity for all Canadians to join hands in one massive celebration in praise of our farmers and fishers; our chefs, makers and food producers... as well as all home cooks who like to enjoy good local food!
On Food Day Canada, we are encouraging you to try something local and new. Perhaps you can pick up a seasonal fruit, vegetable or locally made product you've never tried before. Order a farm-to-plate item off a locally inspired menu, or test out a new recipe (there are lots of great ideas here).
In support of Food Day Canada, the Get Fresh Guide in partnership with the Root Cellar Green Grocer is hosting a contest encouraging you to get involved this BC Day long weekend.
How does the contest work?
1. LIKE our Facebook page*
2. Visit any of the Get Fresh Guide locations between August 4-7 (pick up a guide or visit any of our location pages for lists of participating farms, markets, restaurants and makers). Take a photo of the local, seasonal food item you purchased OR of the location you visited.
3. POST this image on your Facebook page. TAG the Get Fresh Guide and Root Cellar in your comment by typing @getfreshguide and @rootcellar
*Come and follow our Get Fresh Facebook page and join our growing community spreading the good local food word! Let's work together in the support of our local farmers and purveyors to create a thriving and sustainable local food economy.
Two random winners will be chosen from the submissions who have successfully tagged Get Fresh Guide and the Root Cellar (on Facebook). Each winner will receive a $50 Gift Certificate to spend at the Root Cellar Green Grocer.
Winners will be notified via FB message on Tuesday, August 8th and can collect their Gift Certificate directly from the Root Cellar with proof of name.
Good Luck and Have Fun Getting Fresh with the Locals!
Some of the ways you can participate in Food Day Canada:
You can head to one of our enthusiastic Food Day Canada restaurants (Spinnakers is one of the participating local restaurants) to enjoy an unequalled repast or you can plan your own local meal! Plan a Get Fresh Food Adventure! Paddle to a distant shore to light a campfire…barbecue some fish… sweep off the deck for a neighbourhood supper…. dig a roasting pit…. build an oven… fire up the grill… and use only local ingredients to create a feast or a simple dinner that honours our extraordinary culinary history and points the way to the future, together.
And never, ever be afraid to haul out your soapbox to tell retailers to provide more local ingredients, with hopefully less packaging, so you can eat this way all year round!
Food Day Canada is the time and place for Canadians to share their food and their stories with each other while leading other nations in cultural diversity, food ethics, magnificent flavours … and fun!
